Healthy Summer Feet

Did you know?  A single pair of flip flops can harbor a whopping 18,000 bacteria, including Staphylococcus.

Rethink those flip flops…  Over wearing flip flops can cause stress fractures, heel pain and tendonitis, and can exacerbate hammertoes.  These are not shoes that we should wear from 8am til 8pm. Not all flip flops are created equally, look for a pair with a thicker sole and arch support; remember you should never be able to bend the shoe in half.  Stop by our office to view our sandals with a built in orthotic and thicker sole.

Walking barefoot is one of the great joys of summer, but be cautious of contracting viruses such as: warts, fungus, foreign bodies, or skin infections. Hot temps mean sweaty feet which increases risk of infection.  We suggest wearing socks that wick excess moisture away and changing damp socks as soon as possible.  We carry a complete line for your convenience

Dry, cracked heels – wearing open backed shoes can spread the fat pad of the heel, causing the skin to crack. If you notice deep cracks, treat the heel with an antibiotic ointments and cover with a band aid.  Run of the mill dry summer heels, try treating them with an exfoliating moisturizer every day and use a pumice stone once or twice a week in the shower.  We carry Kera 42 cream to soften those dry heels.

We offer same day scheduling and in house x-rays for your convenience. Call our office to schedule an appointment for any of your summer foot care needs.
